GardaĆ­ are advising motorists in Louth and Meath to drive sensibly over the Christmas period.

It comes as almost 600 drivers were caught speeding on the country’s roads as part of the GardaĆ­’s National Slow Down Day, which came to an end at 7am this morning.

Meanwhile, members of the force are also reminding motorists of their new roadside drug testing device, which can test for a wider range of drugs and provide quicker results.
