Aontú councillor Emer Toíbin will raise the spectre of the Damien English planning application at next Monday’s council meeting.

She has tabled the following question, ‘“What actions or inquiry process does Meath County Council engage in, in the event of it
giving planning permission to an applicant where information falsely provided by the
applicant and contrary to planning criteria, comes to light?”

Toíbin told Meath Live, ‘ Damien’s time under the microscope was very very short, the media and everyone else quickly moved on to bigger fish.

‘I appreciate that because the statute of limitations the council are effectively prohibited from taking further action but my fear is no lessons have been learned.

‘We need to out a far more robust  system of checks and balances in place to ensure planners give even the briefest of checks on the Land Registry site is carried out when an applicant states they do not already own a property.’
