Meath Live understands that heroin is once again widely available in Navan.

One source told us, ‘ For some reason, whether it was a shortage in supply or whatever smack, (heroin), had virtually disappeared from the scene but since Christmas the place has been flooded with it once again.

‘Talk to those involved in tidy towns groups or those tasked with cleaning the streets and they will tell you they are finiding more and more needles, it is not exactly an epidemic but it is very prevalent.’

Two councillors have also confirmed that heroin use is on the increase, with Fianna Fáils Tommy Reilly saying, ‘ It is rife, absolutely rife now, it is as easy to access as Smarties.’

Independent, Alan Lawes, revealed, ‘Crack cocaine was the major problem for a period but over the last few months heroin has become more and more widely available and the number of registered heroin addicts has risen.’
