This is the dramatic moment a teen thug hurled a large rock threw the window of an Aldi store that was packed with shoppers. Before two Gardai arrive and arrest him before they bundle him into an unmarked Garda car.

The horrific incident had been building up for almost half an hour outside the shop in Navan next door to the Pairc Tailteann GAA ground, last Friday lunch time.

One eye witness revealed, ‘There was mayhem, the guy had apparently been removed from the shop by staff and was unhappy about it.

‘He was roaring and shouting abuse and there Mums wheeling toddlers past him who looked terrified, security staff were trying to keep people away from the shop windows where they normally pack away their stuff as once he picked up the rock it was clear what he was about to do.

‘It looked as if he was off his head on something and almost wanted to be arrested to get help, he could have thrown the rock at any stage but seemed to wait until he saw the cops arrive to do it.

‘When he fired it the window was smashed but luckily nobody was hurt as they had all moved away.

‘Friday lunch time is mega busy in Aldi as apart from those doing the family shop the hospital is close by and loads of workers from there go down to buy lunch.’

A Garda spokesperson said ‘Gardaí arrested a male teenage youth following an incident of criminal damage at a retail premises in Navan, Co. Meath on Friday, 21st April 2023.

‘The youth was later released pending a referral to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme.’

Aldi said in a statement, “Aldi is aware of an incident at our Navan store on Friday, 21 April.  We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and confirm this is now a matter for the Gardaí.”.
