Meath County Council’s Head of Finance and Director of Services Fiona Lawless has been appointed the council’s chief executive on a temporary basis from next month.

She will replace Jackie Maguire who retires from her post as Chief executive on June fifth next.

Ms Lawless will take up her post the next day.

County councillors were told this week that Ms Lawless will fill the chief executive post until the position is filled by a competition to be organised by the Public Appointments Service.

Ms Lawless was appointed following a confined internal competition.

Originally from Trim, Ms Lawless has worked with Meath County Council since 2002.

Previously, she worked with Price Waterhouse, Locktite, and Eircom before joining the local authority as a financial accountant, later becoming head of finance.
