Meath county council have confirmed that the AGM of the Ashbourne area Municipal District has been postponed from June 12th to the 20th to facilitate a planned medical procedure to a councillor who is due to be in hospital the day before the original meeting.

A council spokesperson said, “The meeting has been deferred from the original date and the current MD chair will remain in office until June 20th,This request came from members and requests are normally facilitated where they can be.”

However sources have claimed there may be a political reason behind the move.

One told Meath Live, the person who cannot attend, and there are completely legitimate medical reasons why they cannot, is due to contest the vote for Chairperson against the Independent Joe Bonner and needs every vote they can muster, including their own to ensure they get the position

‘However there would be enough in attendance to form a quorum and allow the meeting proceed without this individual but if that happened the most likely scenario is Bonner would get in.”

When contacted Collr Bonner declined to comment.
