A 2021 protest which saw thousands take to Bettystown to highlight the lack of Gardai and lack of Garda resources in Meaths coastal region appears to have worked as it emerged this week that the Office Of Public Works, (OPW), has been asked to source a site to locate a new station for the East Meath community.

The new station has been included in the Garda Capital Investment Programme for 2023-2030.

Louth/Meath East TD Fergus O’Dowd, has revealed that the Garda Commissioners Office acknowledges the growth in the South Drogheda and East Meath area, which they have projected at 50,000 people, stating it clearly shows the need for an expansion in both facilities and personnel.

The Commissioner’s office has also confirmed that both the Louth and Meath divisional officers have established a ‘Boundary Alignment Implementation Team’ to examine issues such as changes to PULSE and Command and Control elements.
