The Fine Gael TD for Meath West Damien English has confirmed his intention to contest the next general election.

Speaking on LMFM radio, he said, ‘My feeling always was that no matter what position you are in you, be it Minister, TD or Councillor, you can always make an impact.

‘Thankfully I got the chance to do that for the county and for the country, I am fortunate to be able to deliver for the people I represent, we have two strong offices in Trim and in Navan working hard for the people.

‘I certainly intend to run in the next election, all going well, of course the people of Meath will decide who their next TD’s are, and part of my job is when the time comes to go out and ask people for their vote again.

‘I have a lot of support, people understand what I went through, I wasn’t happy with myself in relation to that planning file and that’s why I took a step back.’
