Colleagues of two Gardai who were hospitalized when their patrol car was rammed by teen joyriders in an Ashbourne hotel car park last Sunday night have said the pair feared for their lives.
A Garda Representative Association, (GRA) spokesman revealed, “The two members had been released from hospital but had been declared unfit for duty. both members have stated to me that they feared for their lives when the stolen car rammed them head-on.”
The dramatic incident began in Cabra in Dublin 7 on Sunday evening, after officers attempted to stop a vehicle following reports of an unauthorized taking.
The car was involved in separate collisions with two official Garda Vehicles.
The two male officers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The car was eventually stopped in the Slane area and four teenagers – three boys and a girl, were detained.
They were later released without charge pending referral to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme
