Sinn Féin councillor for the Ashbourne Municipal district Aisling O’Neill has sensationally resigned from the council with immediate effect.
When Meath Live emailed her questions on the matter we were sent the following reply, “ I am no longer in the position of Councillor for the Ashbourne Municipal District please direct your emails to; darrenorourke@oireachtas.ie
In an internal email to all councillors a council official informed them of the resignation and said that a co option will take place at the July meeting of the council.
The email also revealed that Ms O’Neill had cited work commitments as the reason for stepping down.
O’Neill then posted on Facebook, saying, “I have resigned from the position of Councillor for the Ashbourne Municipal District. I want to thank everyone who has helped me over the last two years .
“I am working as Assistant Director of Nursing over Patient flow in Connolly’s Emergency Department and it has become increasingly difficult for me to meet my Council obligations. A big thank you to my fellow Councillors for all their assistance throughout my time on the council.”
A former councillor Emer Ferguson Towell from Laytown has emerged as the front runner to fill the vacancy.
