Aontú have selected their candidate for the Laytown / Bettystown electoral area, for the local elections in May 2024.
Peter Whelan a farmer from Rathmaiden Slane will be representing Aontú in this area. Peter who runs a small free range pig farm with his wife Susan , previously ran for Aontú in 2019 in the local elections .
He joined Aontú just after they were set up by Meath TD Peadar Toibín .
He told Meath Live,“I’m delighted and privileged to be selected by my party to represent this vast constituency that is so special to me . I made a promise back in 2019 that I would continue to work tirelessly on behalf of the people of the Laytown / Bettystown areas. I have stuck to my promises and have made some peoples lives better as a result .
“I have brought many issues to national attention. I was proud to be able to help with the Save the Boyne campaign and the campaign to keep the Irish Military War Museum open. I will continue to represent the good people of this region. On many occasions I have highlighted the lack of Garda numbers in Meath an issue I will continue to highlight.
“My farming and business experience place me in a good position to speak with authority on many farming and business related issues affecting this region . I have been farming just outside Slane for the past 18 years. I sell my free range products every Saturday at a farmer’s market. I know and understand the pressures on small to medium businesses, especially at these times of increasing fuel and energy prices .
The people of Laytown / Bettystown electoral area need change . I want to be that voice of change .”
