Residents of the Killegland  Walk complex in Ashbourne staged a sit in this morning to defy representatives of the Respond housing association who were attempting to remove a controversially erected shed.

As Meath Live reported last month a residents group had spent up to € 5000 of their own money renovating a derelict roof top area into a community garden but Respond were unhappy with the construction of a shed in the area and wrote to them saying they would take it down.

Workmen arrived to do so this morning and while they did manage to begin the process, ironically using the residents own ladder to take the roof off the shed, when residents became aware of what was going on a number of them went and sat in the shed forcing the would be demolishers to abandon their efforts.

Independent councillor Joe Bonner was at the scene and in the TikTok video, which has had thousands of views on the social media site, below he can be seen with residents chairman Matt Meagher objecting to what went on.

Cllr.Bonner had been in contact with Respond over a number of weeks ago and had heard nothing back. These ‘workmen’ arrived without notice,or any of their own tools,no health and safety gear and attempted to dismantle the shed. ‘A black day in Ashbourne.. ‘as described by Bonner.
