Workers at Tara Mines in Navan will meet with senior politicians in Leinster House this lunchtime to voice their concern at the temporary closure of the mines at the end of the week.

Six hundred and fifty staff are due to be temporarily laid off on Friday for an indefinite period as part of plans by the mines owners to cut costs.

Unions and management at the mine held a series of meetings at the Workplace Relations Commission last week before agreeing on a way forward.

Workers are currently voting on proposals agreed at the WRC.
