Independent councillor Alan Lawes has told Meath Live that the fire in the Academy Street apartments last week has revealed the true extent of the homeless problem in the county.
He asked, “Where are we going to put the 100 plus people who have had to move out from their apartments?
” I have been critical of Meath County Council in the past on this issue but the reality is they don’t have the houses or apartments.
“As of today, (Monday 14th), there are three places available for rent in all of Meath and that illustrates the difficulty the council faces as with the best of intentions there is not much they can do.”
Meath Live understands a number of those left homeless by the Academy Street blaze are in emergency accommodation as far away as Bettystown and some more in Drogheda.
