Gardai investigating a suspected arson attack on a Navan apartment complex have arrested a teenage boy.

The blaze at the Academy Square apartments last month saw a large number of the 132 apartments damaged.

A number of residents were left homeless following the incident, on August seventh last.

The 16 year old was arrested early yesterday morning during a planned search of a house in the town.

He was taken to Navan Garda Station for questioning about the blaze, and several other criminal damage incidents in the town.

He’s since been released without charge and a file will be sent to the Garda National Youth Diversion Bureau in accordance with the Children Act.

The underground car park in the complex has remained closed since the fire and residents have complained that they have been hit with parking fines as they have no alternative but to park on nearby streets.
