Councillor Michael Gallagher has welcomed the construction of a new footpath in Drumconrath which will commence next week.
He said ‘This is great news for the people of Drumconrath and the surrounding area .
‘
This new footpath will link the village of Drumconrath to the local GAA pitch, this is a very busy and dangerous road for pedestrian use as the road is narrow at the top of Birdhill .This path will improve the safety of the pedestrians using the GAA facilities, where there is a much used floodlit Walking Track and other GAA activities. I have lobbied for construction of this path for years, l have put motions to the Kells MD meeting to get it constructed and thankfully with funding for the ORIS system the footpath will be delivered.
‘This funding was applied for by the recently formed Tidy Towns group first to the Council then the Council applied for the ORIS funding , I would like to thank the Tidy Town Committee and the Community service at County Council for all the work in getting this project underway.’
