Despite the wet spring weather there will still be a large crowd heading to Fairyhouse today for the Irish Grand National.
Always a challenge to win a national but with the soft ground and owners and trainers decisions to withdraw horses has depleted
the numbers to 2o runners.
The event boasts a pot of €500,000 today and has been sponsored by BoyleSports since 2014.
Who will win, is still anyone’s guess but the smart money will be probably placed on Willie Mullins trained Nick Rockett available
at 5/1 or thereabouts dependending where your looking. He still has to carry 11-10 over the 3 mile 5 furlongs in what was described as gluey
ground yesterday by the jockeys.
Local trainers are also in head the betting with Intense Raffles trained T. Gibney and Gavin Cromwell’s Yeah Man also short prices today.
Gordon Elliott has six going to post too, with Where It All Began at 12/1 out to Dunboyne at 40/1 and Diol Ker at 80/1 there also Tony Martin’s
Good Time Jonny at 11/1.
We have plenty on local trainers looking to lift the BoylesSport Irish Grand National later this afternoon but the master from Closutton has to be taken
on. Just back from his exploits in Cheltenham after reaching and passing 100 winners he is the man to beat.
He has set the marker as Gordon Elliott alluded to in a recent interview Sam Inkersole of Press Box
”Willie Mullins is an amazing man – he sets the standard we have to hit every week
We have to look at Willie every day of the week – the Brits only have to a couple of times a year ! He is an amazing man.
He sets the standard and we all have to up our game to get to him.” For prices with Boylesports;
