Local Councillor and Meath County Council Chairperson Tommy Reilly is delighted to announced
that the wait for a new school building at Lismullen NS is finally over.
After 17 long years the construction of a much needed new school building has finally
been given the green light by the Department of Education.
“The Department of Education has issued a letter of intent to Lismullen National School in
relation to the awarding of a tender for the project. The large scale capital project, involves
the construction of a new 16 classroom school, a PE Hall and classrooms for children with
special educational needs
Cllr Reilly, along with Minister Thomas Byrne, met with school principal Violet Molloy in late
February and both vowed once and for all to get answers and action for school staff,
students and parents, which culminated in this evening’s announcement.
“I am absolutely over the moon for everyone concerned and connected with Lismullen
National School. When myself and the Minister visited recently, the frustration felt by
Principal Violet Molloy was absolutely palpable. I left that day and vowed to get answers and
action and this evening’s news is just fantastic,” said Cllr Reilly.
He added: “The issue of the letter of intent is a significant milestone in the progression of this
project. The next major milestone will be the issue of the Letter of Acceptance to the
successful contractor. This will be done following further engagement with the successful
contract and please God now there will be no more delays,” said Cllr Reilly.
Meath Live, local press and media have published articles outlining the antiquated
and horrendous conditions staff and students have had to endure in the past which included
lack of heating, cramped and outdated facilities dependent on portacabins
for over 250 plus students and staff, that is not fit for purpose.
