As the population continues to increase in Meath, Des Foley addressed the May monthly meeting
with the Launch of The Economic Development Strategic Action Plan 2024.
We have over 55,00o people working in the county with over 43,000 people travelling outside
15,000 travelling to the county leaving about 40,000 that live and work in the county,
We also have a workforce that is well educated with over 66% having a third level education.
We have a bright future from an economic perspective and Meath County Council plan to engage
a Business Relationship Manager to continue to develop the local economy here in the county.
Many of the councillors expressed their compliments on the document but stressed the importance that
all local areas should see the benefits.
Cllr Sean Drew pointed out that we have a very successful Business Park in Kells but it is now full and we should be looking
to expand as we need more space to grow on the success of the business park.
Cllr Pauric Fitsimmons advocated we should be looking to build on the strengths of Navan furniture when at one stage over
40% of workers were employed in the sector. A lot of furniture is now imported but we should look to retain the skillset in the town.
With the skills here we can produce some of the finest furniture in the world with people prepared to pay top rates for
quality suites he said.
There was plenty of positive comment on the presentation from many of the councillors but reminding the executive to give
a balance around all the county.
The Economic Development plan will be launched on 30th May at Buvinda House, Meath Co Co HQ.
