The 2024 Epsom Derby has a very open appearance with Aidan O’Brien
sending out three of the 16 starters in attempt to win the famous
race for the 11th time.
City of Troy bids to emulate Auguste Rodin, who flopped in the 2,000
Guineas at Newmarket last year before gaining Derby glory. O’Brien
has stated that City of Troy is the best horse he ever run in the
Epsom despite the colt only finishing ninth in the Guineas. Ryan Moore
has chosen to partner him with Wayne Lordan riding unbeaten Los
Angeles and Moynalty native Declan McDonogh on Euphoric.
There is another Irish-trained contender in Dallas Star, a first
runner in the race for Westmeath handler Adrian Murray with David Egan
in the saddle,.
The hopeful selection is AMBIENTE FRIENDLY, the winner of the
Lingfield Trial three weeks ago. Trained by James Fanshawe and ridden
by veteran jockey Robert Havlin, the colt could be each-way value at
around 7/1.
The Betfred Derby is at 4.30 pm today over 1 mile 4 furlongs on the famous Epsom
Downs racecourse.
