A meeting was held last night in the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown, Tyrrelstown, Dublin
by the Community Engagement Team of the Department dealing with Thornton Hall Site.
The meeting was by INVITATION ONLY according to information Meath Live has learned today.
Cllr Joe Bonner was not informed or invited and has expressed his absolute disgust and
rage by the actions of the government.
”As an elected public representative I am calling on the ministers based locally and in the department
to tell us why, we as councillors have been not being informed and invited to this meeting.
We have been dealing with this issue head on over the last number of weeks and we are being
kept in the dark. People are concerned and need clarity. ” he said.
”I have always held public meetings to let the people know what is happening in a balanced and fair manner.
To be treated this way is inexcusable and what it will do is lead to mistrust among the public.
Who was invited, I don’t really know. I am hearing the information from third parties.
It creates an unnecessary vacuum for misinformation to spread.” Bonner added.
”It has been difficult on the doors trying to tell people what’s happening when you don’t
have the relevant information.” he finally commented.
Meath Live contacted the relevant department yesterday regarding verbal attacks on Simon Harris
and local councillor Alan Tobin. and we were informed the update position was that all public
representatives were being briefed yet there was a meeting obviously planned later in the evening.
Here is part of the reply;
”Please see the response to your recent query from a Department spokesperson:
The Community Engagement Team has engaged with local public representatives in
relation to the use of the site, with a full briefing note provided, and will endeavour
to keep them informed of further developments. There is no further update available
at this time.”
This reply came close to 6.00 pm yesterday and a meeting was planned for that evening. It speaks for
itself at the manner, the media and public representatives are being handled by the government
on this issue.
