THE rich heritage of County Meath will be celebrated across eight days in August,
the theme being driven by connections, routes and networks through local culture
with a wealth of events across the county.

National Heritage Week is taking place from this Saturday 17 August until next
Sunday, 25 August with something for everyone on the agenda nearby. Included here
are just a few of the culturally rich events taking place and to see all there is to see

Meath Made, the official creative collective for County Meath will be at the Swift
Cultural Centre in Trim for a two-day festival of craft and creativity (Saturday-
Sunday 17-18 August). There will be a multimedia art exhibition throughout the
Centre, showcasing the collective’s work along with workshops and demonstrations
from morning until evening.

Meath County Council will host ‘The Making of Meath: The County’s Natural
Landscape History’ in an exhibition compiled by geologist and author Dr Robbie
Meehan from 19th to 23rd August, 9 am to 5 pm. The exhibition will feature geological
features and the landscape of ‘the plains of Royal Meath’ at the free event.
‘A Turn at Tara’ (Feis Teamhra) will take place at Tara Visitor Centre featuring
readings and performances by some of Ireland’s best known writers and musicians on
Sunday 18 August from 3pm. Irish poet Aifric MacAodha will be joined by fiction
writer Louise Kennedy and singer-songwriter Lisa Lambe for a free event organised
by Susan McKeown and Paul Muldoon and supported by Poetry Ireland and the
OPW.

Explore the Kells TypeTrail and connect with creative director Mark Smith on a
walking tour of the local Irish alphabet while remembering Market Day traditions on
Thursday 22 August from 7.15pm to 8pm. The tour will depart from the Church Street
entrance of St Columba’s Church of Ireland and promises to be an illuminating
experience

Timeless Sash Windows

Uncover the evolution and architectural significance of ‘Historic Windows and their
Conservation’ in an informative talk by Timeless Sash Windows and see the work of
skilled craftspeople as they carefully restore old and historic windows to their former
glory. Booking is essential for the event in Boyerstown taking place on Wednesday 23
August from 11am to 12pm
