Graham Geraghty feels that Robbie Brennan is the best man to take
over from Colm O’Rourke as the manager of the Meath senior football
team.
In an interview with the Irish Sun, the 1999 All-Ireland winning
captain said O’Rourke took the correct decision by stepping aside
after two terms at the Royals’ helm. This year’s results were very
disappointing with only fifth place being achieved in Division 2 of
the National League and four championship defeats, including a 16
points drubbing from Dublin.
“We haven’t really made progress over the last couple of years. A lot
of the supporters that I’ve been talking to are disgruntled by the
style of play. It’s been disappointing”, said Geraghty.
Speaking in favour of the Meath SFC winner with Dunboyne in 2005 and
successful Kilmacud Crokes manager, the former Royals ace said;
“Robbie Brennan has the credentials. He’s done it all with Kilmacud
Crokes and it seems to be the next step.Â
Geraghty is also impressed with the efforts of Cathal O’Bric, who
achieved some underage successes, including this year’s Leinster
under-20 title, but he feels that it’s a massive step up from looking
after underage players to being in charge of seniors.
“For me, Robbie Brennan would be the favourite but I don’t know what
the county board are thinking”, he said.
