It went down to the wire here at Carton House to see who would win, the 2024 KPMG Irish Women’s Open Masters. In would eventually see the French girl Pauline Roussin-Bouchard  drive into the rough down the left after squaring the 18th, in the first play off. She held the advantage initially but Annabel Dimmock, whose mum hails from Cork did really well to halve the hole in the first pay off.

Dimmock was in a bit of trouble out on the left in the rough on the left about 120 to the green. She needed  to put it close and that she did, keeping herself in the game. Both parred it and off  as they headed back to the 18th tee box.

Then a great drive Dimmock, put her in prime position just about 60/70 yards straight in from the green. The 18th green was packed with the massive crowd who showed great support and encouragement for the two players through the play off rounds.

Who would it be, third time lucky for ! The next 10 mins would unravel the winner, no one was leaving, The wind was starting to rise but coming right down the hole from tee to green. The crowd was soaking up the  atmosphere and treated to an Anglo Franco duel fit for any finale, on the magnificent O’Meara course, in Carton House.

Bouchard drove into trouble on the left and in the rough. Anabel hit a massive drive right down the middle, less that 75 yards to the green, The advantage  swung her way. She was to par the hole and win to take the title. It was tough on her adversary too, given her great score today, 9 under, and to make the playoff.

Annabel Dimmock was lost for words, an emotional winner, trying to take in her win but deserve it, she did, she held her nerve. The green band on her pink top will be a keep safe for ever, and maybe the bit green in her from Cork help give her the rub of the green too. Dimmock, the English woman, a Irish Women’s Open.
