Garda have appealed to motorists throughout the country to drive within the speed limits on the respective national and secondary roads. With the National Slow Down Day coming to an end at 7am this morning media has media has been updated through the day. Here at Meath Live we are issuing the updates that illustrate the type of speed detections recorded.

We continue to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads. An Garda Síochána would like to thank drivers for their compliance during the first two hours of ‘National Slow Down Day’, making Irish roads safer for all road users.

Update 3 – National Slow Down Day – 7am on Monday 2nd September 2024 to 7am on Tuesday 3rd September 2024
Between 7am and 5pm, GoSafe checked the speeds of 90,454 vehicles and detected 170 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

Examples of high speeds detected include:

• 78km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Leopardstown Road Dublin 18
• 89km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the N4 Drishoge Carrick-On-Shannon Roscommon
• 115km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N15 Keeldrum Donegal Donegal
• 106km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the R772 Clavass Enniscorthy Wexford
• 123km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N18 Ballinacurra (Weston) Limerick Limerick
• 130km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M6 Killavally Tyrrellspass Westmeath

Update 2 – National Slow Down Day – 7am on Monday 2nd September 2024 to 7am on Tuesday 3rd September 2024
Between 7am and 12am, GoSafe checked the speeds of 29,729 vehicles and detected 72* vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

• 111km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N3 Lisgrea Virginia Cavan
• 129km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M6 Killavally Tyrrellspass Westmeath
