At approximately 11:30am this morning, Monday 24th March 2025, Gardaí were alerted to an alleged criminal damage incident at a residence in Ashbourne, Co. Meath. On arrival of Gardaí, a male had barricaded himself into the property, refused to engage with Gardaí and threatened to self-harm.
An Garda Síochána initiated its Operational Command protocol, appointing an On-Scene Commander and local Garda negotiators from the National Negotiators Unit attended the scene. The incident was peacefully resolved shortly after 4:30 pm following negotiations.
The male, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.
