A 59-year-old man with a Co Armagh address who appeared at Trim District Court in the Irish Republic today on drugs charges has been sent forward for trial at the local circuit court. Donal McDonald, Mullaghabawn, Co Armagh was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis valued at more than 13,000 euro for sale or supply at Drumbaragh, Kells on 23rd April last year. He was also charged with possession of an iphone intended for use in drug trafficking offences.
He was also charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, clonzolam, and MDMA for sale or supply at Ross Upper, Rathdowney, Co Laois on the same date. Further charges alleged that he was in unlawful possession of 16,250 euros and 19,050 euros, amounts suspected to be the proceeds of crime. A Garda gave evidence in court of having served a book of evidence on the accused.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan cautioned the defendant that if he wished to rely on an alibi he must supply details in writing to the prosecution before the trial. Solicitor Maurice Regan applied for and was granted free legal aid for his client and the judge remanded the accused on continuing bail to Trim Circuit Court for his trial on 13th May next.
