A 27 year-old woman from Navan admitted on two successive days in the town having without lawful authority or reasonable excuse offensive weapons for causing injury or to incapacitate a person. Mother of four Winnie Nevin of Tailteann Close, Windtown, Navan, was charged with the offences in February last year, when she had in one instance a large steel bar, and a pickaxe handle on the other occasion.

Defence solicitor Maurice Regan explained there was an on-going dispute between family members. The defendant had nothing previously of this nature against her. Judge Eirinn McKiernan adjourned the case to see if the defendant was suitable for community service. She put the charges back to May 22th , stating she would impose 150 hours community service in lieu of four months in jail if the defendant was suitable.

The Judge was told that one of the incidents occurred at Farrellys Daybreak, Navan on February 25th last year. A woman was parked in her car when the defendant approached with a weapon in her hand and asked her to come out and fight. The defendant swung the weapon at the car and hit the passenger side window. The next day at Windtown Road a pickaxe handle was found in the rear of a vehicle.

CONVICTED ON KNIFE CHARGE
A man known to a Garda as a drug user was searched and as a result was before Trim District Court on Thursday.
Igoris Kleinovas of Abbeygrove, Navan was charged with possession of a flick knife. The 58 year-old was convicted and fined €300 for the offence on August 5th 2020. Garda Conor E McCluskey said that he encountered the defendant at Emmet Terrace, Navan on the date. On searching the defendant he found two blue tablets in his pocket, and also the flick knife. The defendant was stated to have 24 previous convictions, a number for a similar offence.

PUT BACK TO ALLOW TREATMENT
Joseph O’Connell of Newhaggard Lane, Trim had a case of dangerous driving adjourned to allow him enter treatment. The 39 year-old was charged with the offence at Newhaggard Lane, Trim on March 21 2022. His solicitor Miriam Regan said the defendant hoped to go into residential treatment in two weeks. Judge Eirinn McKiernan at last Thursday’s sitting of Trim District Court said she would consider dealing with the charge by not imposing a sentence and disqualify the defendant from driving for four years if he entered treatment. She put the case back to May 8th next.
