A new application for a proposed refugee centre at the old Hse building in Kells has been submitted to Meath County Council planning department. The former headquarters of the health board on Navan Road is the subject of the application and the council has to decide whether it is suitable under planning regulations as a centre for international protection applicants.
In a joint statement, councillors or Kells Municipal District provided an update and clarification regarding Section 5 UPAS applications within the district. They confirmed that the Section application submitted in regard to Unit 7 Kells Business Park had twice been refused by the county council planning department.
A new Section 5 application had been submitted by Star Strand Ltd for the former Hse building at Headfort Place and that application is under consideratioin by the planning department.
As part of the ongoing assessment of the application submitted by Transboil Ltd the council has requested further information in relation to the company’s proposal to convert a former hotel on Coogan Street, Oldcastle into an IPAS centre.
“The live Section 5 applications will continue to be processed in line with planning legislation and guidelines”, the Kells MD councillors said.
