On Saturday evening, over 270 members, players (past and present), and friends of Navan RFC gathered at the Ardboyne Hotel to celebrate a truly special occasion, the Centenary of Navan Rugby Football Club. The gala marked a remarkable milestone in the club’s rich history, celebrating its journey from humble beginnings to its current position as one of the most vibrant and inclusive rugby
communities in the country.

Among the distinguished guests were Simon Donnelly, Brad Harris, and Ryan Roberts, the  captain and coaching team from the legendary Men’s 1st XV squad that earned Navan’s historic promotion from Junior Leinster Rugby to the All-Ireland League in 2009. All three
travelled from Australia to be part of the celebrations.

Club President Scott Ennis welcomed those in attendance and highlighted the club’s
continued growth and commitment to inclusion, proudly noting that with the recent formation of a Women’s 3rd XV, Navan RFC now fields up to 24 teams, from Minis and Youth to Senior level.

Robert Deacon, Leinster delegate to the IRFU Committee, represented the Irish Rugby Football Union and extended congratulations to the club on reaching its centenary. He also noted the special coincidence that Navan RFC’s 100th anniversary takes place in the same
year as the IRFU’s 150th anniversary.

Bringing the formalities to a close, Stephen Mackerel delivered a warm and witty reflection on the club’s history, peppered with memorable anecdotes that drew plenty of laughter and nods of recognition from the audience. The evening was a proud and joyful celebration of Navan RFC’s past, present, and future, a testament to the community spirit, passion, and resilience that has carried the club through a century of rugby.
