A 25-year-old man with a Trim address seen driving dangerously at Commons Road, Navan has been fined and disqualified from driving. Glen Hogan, Mornington Avenue, Trim was charged with dangerous driving on 14th December 2021. Trim District Court was told by defending solicitor Dermot Monahan that his client had done a driver awareness course since a previous court hearing. Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a four-month prison term suspended for 12 months. She also imposed a four-year disqualification.

Separately, a 38-year-old man with a Slane address failed to appear in court to answer a charge of drunken driving. Lorcan Harding, Churchlands, Slane was charged on 27th November 2021. Garda Maughan told the court he stopped defendant at an authorised checkpoint. He had failed a roadside breath test and had been arrested. At the Garda station he had been processed and a further breath test gave a
reading of 55/100. The defendant’s name was called in court and he failed to answer. The judge convicted him and imposed a €300 fine with a two-year disqualification.

In another case Martin Maguire (28), Maudelins Lane, Duleek was charged with driving without insurance or driving licence at Kennedy road, Navan on 1st August 2023. Garda Paul Cullen told the court that he had seen defendant driving on 3rd August 2023 and knew he
was disqualified. On 20th August Garda Keogh called to his address and demanded production of his documents. Garda Cullen said he had not produced them either at the scene or since.
Defending barrister James O’Brien said that Garda Keogh had not seen the defendant driving. The issue had been prejudged by Garda Cullen saying he knew his client was a disqualified driver. The defendant did not appear in court and Judge McKiernan issued a warrant for his arrest.

A 36-year-old man who was stopped at a mandatory Garda checkpoint was found to be driving while he had a banned drug in his system. Donal Mulcahy, Kilcarn Court, Navan was charged with drug driving on 6th June 2021, Sergeant O’Malley told the court. The defendant did not appear in court. He was fined €300 and disqualified for a year.
