A 32 year-old woman from Navan currently serving two years in jail, received a number of concurrent terms totally six months at Trim District Court on Tuesday. Rachel Robertson from Clusker Park, Navan was stated to have been sentenced last month to three years imprisonment by the circuit court, with the final year suspended She entered guilty pleas to a series of offences, mainly thefts from local stores and related offences, criminal damage, assault and public order matters. She was stated to have 71 previous convictions.
Court Presenter, Sergeant Cathal Brady outlined the circumstances surrounding the different incidents which took place in 2023 and 2024 and also on dates in February and March this year. He recalled a theft which involved alcohol and chocolate total value €28.90 at Centra,
Blackcastle Shopping Centre on September 3rd 2023 which weren’t recovered. Another offence occurred the following September 14th. She stole three bottles of vodka, value €99 from Tesco, Navan Shopping Centre, and one bottle of which was recovered. The defendant also stole cleaning products, value €79.50 from Centra, Commons Road on April 4th the same year, none of which was recovered.

The Sergeant told that Gardai were called on September 13th the same year to Athlumney Abbey where it was alleged she broke a window and mirror. She was told to desist and shouted at Garda and members of the public, and failed to comply with the direction of a Garda.
The defendant stole alcohol on a number of dates from Centra, Commons Road, Navan, and twice on September 17th 2024 when she took €91 and €92.80 worth of drink.
She also stole groceries, value €30 from SuperValu, Johnstown Shopping Centre on October 6th the same year where she was involved in a struggle with security staff. The Sergeant recounted another incident last autumn where she kicked, punched and spate. She told Garda to “ off and leave me alone” when they encountered her in a drunken condition on November 3rd last year at Clusker Park.
On February 21th this year she stole baby formula, washing powder and coffee, value € 39.40 from Centra, Blackcastle Shopping Centre. She was also charged with resisting a Garda and threatening abusive and insulting behaviour at Timmons Hill, Navan on March 22nd last.
Barrister James O’Brien said the defendant had a significant difficulty with drugs and alcohol which was reflected in her previous convictions. She was trying to better herself in prison.
Judge Hayden remarked the defendant had an appalling history. She ordered the fresh sentences to run concurrently with the sentence the defendant is serving.
