Clann na Gael…………………….0-17
St Vincent’s………………………..1-12
Agony again for Ardcath as for the second year in a row losing to St Vincents in The Balreask Junior A final. There were two main reasons for their defeat, a slow start that saw them five points to nil behind after just fifteen minutes and when a Mark Griffin goal late in the opening period gave them renewed hope they failed to build on its momentum.
Trailing by two at the break 0-8 to 1-3 the losers went ahead twice in the second half but like a frail pensioner walking a boisterous bulldog they struggled and eventually failed to hold on to the lead
Add in the fact that Clann’s confined Michael McIvor to just three points and Nigel Hand scoreless while their talisman Ben Corkery and Tom Doyle contributed eleven between them it becomes clearer why the Peter McDermott Cup will winter in Athboy,
