A 40-year-old woman arrested by Gardai for suspected drunken driving had to be restrained and handcuffed and then told them “f** you, drive me home”, a court has been told. Agnieska Supo, Stralem Terrace, Ongar, Dublin appeared at Trim District Court charged with drunken driving at R156 Clonee on 27 th August last year. She did not appear in court.
Garda Doyle told the court that a car driven by defendant approached a roundabout at speed, didn’t slow down and struck a centre divide on the road. When he stopped the vehicle and approached, the occupant started screaming and threatening. There was a strong smell of alcohol and there were empty and full cans of beer in the car along with an empty bottle of whiskey. She jumped over the seat and tried to grab a can of beer.
He formed the opinion that she was incapable of having proper control over a vehicle and arrested her. He cautioned her and told her in ordinary language why she was being arrested. She replied “My husband will kill me. F*** you, drive me home”. She was totally uncooperative, the Garda said. She had given a certain name to Gardai but they discovered while she was in custody that that was not her correct name.
Sergeant Barry McCann who organised the taking of blood specimens from the defendant believed her name to be “Ilona”. Defending barrister Paul Noctor told the court that his client had said she was unwell and she was not present for the hearing. Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a fine of €300 and disqualified defendant for six years.
