John Quinn who was living in Stradbally North, Clarinbridge, Co. Galway and formerly of Ballivor, Co.  Meath  died in January 1st, 2026. Predeceased by his beloved wife Olive, brother Noel and sister Kay.  John passed away in the tender care of his family and staff of UHG (University Hospital Galway). Much loved father of son Declan and daughters Lisa and Deirdre, daughter-in-law Kelly. John was a very proud grandfather to Eva, Georgia, Riley, Callan and Senan . John will be sadly missed by his sister Mary, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and all his RTE colleagues and friends.

Reposing at Suaimhneas on the grounds of the Church of the Annunciation, Clarinbridge (H91HW58), this Sunday the 4th of January from 5pm to 6.30 pm. Funeral Mass on Monday the 5th of January at 1pm in Church of the Annunciation, Clarinbridge. Mass will be broadcast on parish radio 106.2FM and can be viewed on parish website http://www.clarinbridgeparish.ie Burial will take place on TUESDAY the 6th of January at 1pm in Shanganagh Cemetery, Shankill, Dublin (A98Y952).

Originally he trained to be a teacher at St Patrick’ College, Drumconrath. he was to pursue a career as an editor in Fallon’s, the educational book publishers. In the mid 1070’s he moved to RTE and then became involved in radio production were he excelled in his chosen profession. He won many national and international awards. He produced the documentary  ‘Goodnight Ballivor, I’ll sleep in Trim’ based on his life growing up in Ballivor among other programmes on his life in rural Meath. He was born there in 1941.

He would also a successfully author a number of children’s fiction and young adult novels notably he Summer of Lily and Esme, described by the critics as ‘ an instant classic’.

He was always proud of his Meath roots and a passionate Meath Gael who has great respect for Sean Boylan, enjoying Meath’s  All Ireland wins.
