As Jessie Buckley was picking up her Golden Globe for Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet there would have been plenty of cheering for her achievement in Kilmainhamwood in north Meath. Jessie’s mum, Marina Cassidy , hails from the small village and is also a well known and successful musician who plays the harp in her own right.
Marina is married to hotelier Tim Buckley, based in Killarney county Kerry. Celebrations have been in full swing since Jessie picked up her award on Sunday night in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton. She also paid praise to another Irish star Paul Mescal who co-star in the film and indeed to the whole team involved.
She described the success as ” real, real honour ” professing her love for her chosen career. Hamnet also won the Best Motion Picture Drama award which was produced by Steven Spielberg. Although she grew up in Kerry there will be much pride by family and friends in Meath.
