A 46 year-old man from Navan who called a Garda” a Nazi” in an incident during Covid, was convicted and fined €150. Darren Keogh from Castleview Green, Athlumney was given the opportunity to pay €500 and have the matter struck out.

He was brought on Thursday before Trim District Court, which was told he hadn’t paid the money. He pleaded guilty to a breach of public order by engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.

Court Presenter, Sergeant Peter Clarke outlined that the case arose on April 14 2020 at Fitzherbert Wood, Slane Road, Navan. The defendant called a Detective a “Nazi “ and for him to “get the f .. away” from a house. Sergeant Clarke said the defendant had eight previous convictions for road traffic offences.

Barrister Paul Noctor said the defendant was a father of five and an unemployed crane driver, having broken his arm. Judge McKiernan recording the conviction and fine remarked the defendant “got the opportunity to avoid a conviction and didn’t take it.
