Thomas Byrne Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence and Meath East TD has issued the following advice to Meath, Irish and EU citizens in the light of the continuing conflict in the Middle East. Meath Live has been told by citizens on the ground are awaiting flights home to Ireland out of Oman in the coming days.
Shelter-in-place remains the advice for Irish citizens in the Gulf and Middle East. All Irish citizens resident in the region should register themselves, and their families, on the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Citizen’s Register. See link in comments below.
Citizens with queries or concerns can continue to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade consular team in Dublin at +353 1 4082000. Non-essential travel to the region must be avoided. Irish citizens with plans to travel to, or through, the regions, should contact their airline or travel agency immediately.
Please follow the directions of local authorities, and monitor social media accounts, for updates from the local Irish Embassy. To Irish citizens in the UAE, there are no evacuation routes recommended for Gulf countries at present. The advice is to shelter in place.
The Department is maintaining close touch with the airlines of those citizens who were in transit when the conflict began. We also remain in very close contact with EU partners as this situation evolves and I am due to meet with fellow European Affairs Ministers on Tuesday.
Updates will continue to be provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Irish Embassies as they arise.
