The stars aligned last night in Slane Castle as the crowds that travelled far and wide to be there, got the flavour of the outdoor concert that makes Slane famous and unique. The river of music bounced on the Boyne and will flow though the veins and minds for many a year. Slane Castle carried off ”My Kinda Saturday Night” Concert on a blazing summer day and evening that all who attended had to go home happy. There will be I’m sure some fans staying for today’s concert and if they do fair play to them.
Thousands upon thousands enjoyed the atmosphere and fun, the weather certainly turned up trumps overseeing the beauty of the Boyne Valley where its heritage played second fiddle to the music of the day.
Danny O’Donoghue of The Script told the crowd to embrace the day and the moment and to remember ”life is too short, in the realms of infinity, we are only here for a click, forget about your worries, let it all go” and he dedicated the last song Hall of Fame to remember tonight, remember the moment and take it with you. Indeed he is right it is why we go to the big gigs like Slane Castle, to escape in the moment, to have fun, to live, enjoy our lives and have lasting memories of what is good in life.

The crowds all appeared to be enjoying themselves with the music, there was plenty of queuing to be done if you were in the field looking for refreshments, food and drink but all the vendors were doing brisk businesses particularly through the intervals. Dress sense of many of the concert goers reflected the genre of the American country singer Luke Combs. Many of them in their Stetsons and boots but all in good spirits and out for fun.
Luke Combs at the start of his gig came on around 8.30, the sun still blazing in the sky as the concert fans enjoyed the day.
Then it was to the main event but before a hark back to Thin Lizzy’s ” The Boys Are Back In Town” a tribute to the first Slane Concert, The My Kinda Saturday Night show came alive and Luke Combs and band hit the stage. The electricity of the headline act hitting the adrenaline of the concert goers as Slane swung into its American country and the crowds swung with it.
They turned up in their thousands to enjoy the day…
Combs came across an an easy going guy who open admission was his love for singing not realising the potential of his music would allow and the doubts of many a person growing up. In his own words ” How I was gonna make anything out of myself. And to be honest with you, I felt a bit hopeless about the future. And I grew up singing. 
I always loved it. Never, in a million years, did it ever occur to me, like, oh, people, like, singing for a job. I always just thought singing was something I did because I enjoyed it.
”
And it’s still the thing that I enjoy most in the world, is the thing that I feel like I was put on the earth to do, was to sing. And what brings me a lot of joy and happiness to be up here in front of you guys tonight, singing these songs. I guess where I’m going with this is, all of this is still, it still feels so new to me.
The Script were proud to play Slane Castle and got the crowd in the mood for for headline act Luke Combs and his band.

”There are so many experiences that I’ve had over the years that, you know, have blown me away, and I’ve written a lot of songs about those experiences for better or for worse. Some are happy, some are sad, um, some are slow, some are fast. And this next song is one of those songs that I wrote about one of those moments.”
He never played in a field with a castle and he never dreamed what his music would do for him but Combs came across as a genuine guy done good and is living the dream of the American boy and the crowd loved him.
Hopefully today’s concert will repeat the winning formula, American music still makes Slane rock.
