Tributes have been pouring in to one of Ireland’s leading motorbike racers, Killian Galligan, f, who has died after a workplace accident.

Galligan, a general handy man, was working on the roof of a house in Proudstown, Navan, last Friday when he slipped and plunged to his death.

In 2004 Galligan, originally from Clonmellon county Westmeath, won the Irish Support Championship in the highly competitive 401-750cc class.

This achievement not only showcased his prowess on the track but also solidified his legendary status as a force to be reckoned with in the motorcycle racing community.

Social media posts to his Facebook page saw one man write, ‘Gob smacked can’t believe I’m reading this rip my Friend prayers broken-hearted cry   condolences to family friends such a decent gentleman.’

While a racing rival posted, ‘ Rest easy mate. We had some battles. Can’t comprehend that this has happened. Not racing just from working hard. .’

And a female fan said, ‘Very sad news this morning Killian my thoughts are with your wife, family and your beloved German shepherds . R.I.P #59 .’

In recent years Galligan had switched to two wheels without an engine and become a leading light in the Slane Spinners cycling club.

He is survived by his wife Maria, his sons Marius & Jamie, his mother and father Maura & Tommy, his siblings Jacinta, Sharon, Eunan, Ultan and Anna

His funeral takes place in St Patrick’s church Slane on Thursday at noon.
