A Kells driver who has clocked up a number of motoring offences was hit with a heavy fine at Navan District Court on Friday. Bernard Smyth, Carrick Street, Kells was prosecuted by Meath County Council for having no tax on his vehicle. Solicitor Tom Noonan told the court that defendant, who did not appear in court, had seven previous convictions for motoring offences. Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a €500 fine with €130 legal costs.
In another case where a driver – David Culligan, Athlumney Castle, Navan – parked illegally in a disabled parking bay, a €250 fine with €130 costs was handed out. Two people were fined €250 plus €130 costs for failure to have their vehicles taxed. Eighteen drivers were fined €200 with €130 for a similar offence while five were fined €150 plus €130 costs for unauthorised parking in a loading bay. Three drivers had no parking ticket on their vehicles and were fined €105 with €130 costs.
