Independent Councillor Yvonne Everard asked at a meeting of Meath County Council the number of planning enforcement cases the council was currently dealing with. Giving an overview of enforcement moves against unauthorised development, officials said that 94 complaints were recorded on the complaints register and were triaged accordingly. This figure did not include internal referrals received, they said.
Seventy two new cases had been set up in 2025. One hundred and five warning letters had been sent out and 13 enforcement notices had been sent out. One file had been referred for legal action and 20 unauthorised development files had been closed.
Cases in court for the period 1st January 2025 to the end of June was 33 cases. In a clarification, the officials said that this figure did not reflect the number of court cases attended by Meath County Council witnesses but was the number of planning enforcement cases that were listed for court, be that for mention or hearing or to be withdrawn.
