Four years ago Meath ladies claimed the Brendan Marin Cup when defeating Dublin in a dramatic decider, a result rightly regarded as a shock at the time as it stopped the Jackies bid for five in a row All Irelands. Should the current crew repeat that success tomorrow it would barely register as the mildest of surprises, even if it would reverse a two point Leinster final defeat.

Both sides have quality throughout but in Vicky Wall, operating at full forward Meath have the female equivalent of David Clifford a generational talent almost unplayable when on song, and Wall invariably sings the right words in the right order.

Both sides have yet to hit top form this season as in the group stages; both drew a match and Meath struggled to get over Kildare, while Dublin were poor against Waterford but as a general rule these teams tend to bring the best out in each other so a decent game is in prospect.

Sinead Goldrick and Hannah Tyrrell are Dublin’s stand out players but they will do well to penetrate a dogged Meath defence. The desire to overturn that narrow Leinster final defeat added to a better attacking force can see Meath edge home in what should be a close encounter of the very best kind.
