A former resident of Castlelawns, Summerhill has called on the local councillors  in the Trim Municipal District to deal with a number  of health and safety issues as he describes ”the estate the council forgot”. His elderly mother and twin brother still live in the estate, both with medical conditions and in need of his and his wife’s support on a regular basis.

Anthony Mullally is calling on the council to address the issues which include the removal of a ESB pole which hinders vision when leaving the estate. It needs some road safety mirrors to increase visibility on exit. In recent months his wife when leaving the estate could not see clearly because of the ESB pole, and nearly collided with an oncoming vehicle. Someone in estate had put up temporary mirrors, that were taken down by the council.

The pole needs to be moved to improve visibility when exiting the estate points out Anthony Mullally.

He is also calling on improved footpaths and a safe crossing for the community with proper lighting to be installed, presently they benefit from the lights of community centre but when they’re turned off the area is in complete darkness. There are a number of vehicles parking beside a Stop Sign hindering safety and visibility.  More needs to be done too to provide a proper bus service to link to the nearby town which he says are totally unfit for service. There is also a care home in construction beside the estate and this will increase traffic to the village and it is in close proximity to Castlelawns.

Cllr Noel French is aware of the issues.

Meath Live spoke to Cllr Noel French who is aware of the issues and has spoken to the town engineer in Trim to see what can be done.

He agrees with the points raised and said he will do all in his power to get things moving and will raise the issue at the next municipal meeting in Trim which will not be to early September. In the meantime he is awaiting a response from the engineer,” I recognised the issues and he (Anthony Mullally) has identified them.” With respect to the bus transport service in Summerhill he too acknowledged the lack of a regular service. ” We have contacted the NTA  and unfortunately I didn’t get anywhere  with it.”

When we asked him had he ever seen the council put up mirrors on the entrance to a council estate he commented” I have never seen council put up mirrors, the ESB pole creates a blind spot and needs to be looked at.” He is awaiting feedback from the engineer.
