Ratoath based Councillor Nick Killian has called on local pharmacists and doctors to prescribe alternative medicines to patients instead of those produced by the Israeli- owned pharmaceutical giant Teva. Cllr. Killian said his call comes in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and what he describes as “the failure of the international community to take meaningful action.”

“Every community, no matter how small, can take a stand against injustice,” said Cllr. Killian. “By choosing not to support companies linked with Israel, we send a clear message of solidarity with the people of Gaza who are suffering daily.”

Teva is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of generic medicines, with its products widely available across Ireland. Cllr. Killian acknowledged the importance of continuity of patient care but urged healthcare professionals to explore other options.

“I know that for some patients, Teva medicines may be the only available option, and in those cases patient welfare must come first,” he said. “But wherever there are alternatives, I would strongly encourage doctors and pharmacists to prescribe and dispense them.”
