Trim District Court heard that a 32 year-old woman spat in a Garda’s face in a New Year’s Eve incident last year. Teresa McDonald of Lagore Green, Dunshaughlin was arrested for a separate matter. While being conveyed in a Garda vehicle leaned forward and spat on the left side of the Garda’s face, Court Presenter Sergeant Declan Brady told the court.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the offence which occurred at Ratoath on December 31 last. She had previous convictions for offences including criminal damage, under the public order act and theft, the Sergeant said.

Her solicitor Ciara Burke said the defendant didn’t remember the incident. She outlined the defendant’s personal circumstances and difficulties, stating that she suffered badly with mental health, regarding which she handed in a letter to the Judge.

Judge Cronin noted the letter and what was required in respect of the defendant. She commented she had concern for the defendant, and requested a probation and welfare report on her. She explained to the defendant that the report was to assist the defendant and herself (Judge). She adjourned the case to 10th March or for the court to receive the report and fix a date to finalise the matter.
