The funeral of the young teacher Sarah Halpenny who died suddenly in Australia is to take place in Lobinstown on Thursday morning. The remains of Sarah (29) will repose at her home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1pm to 6pm. Removal is to take place on Thursday morning 1st January arriving at the Church of the Holy Cross, Lobinstown for funeral mass at 11am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Sarah is remembered fondly for her time as a teacher at St Joseph’s National School, Kingscourt. She was originally from Lobinstown and had an intense involvement with Gaelic sports starting her playing years with Syddan GAA and later Dee Rangers before moving on to St Kevin’s Gaa in Melbourne after her move to Australia.
In Melbourne, she worked as a teacher at Sacred Heart Primary School in St Albans. She is survived by her heartbroken partner Ciaran, parents David and Yvonne, sisters Emma and Grace and extended family.
Sarah’s wake will be held at Eircode C15P3K2. A one-way traffic system will be in place entering at Benjerstown Cross and exiting at Mitchelstown Cross.
