Meath County Council, in partnership with An Garda Síochána Meath Division, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Meath Partnership, is pleased to announce the launch of the Meath Community Preparedness Alliance, a new initiative aimed at anyone who feels their household would need additional support during an emergency.
Adverse events – such as severe storms, power outages, or flooding – can disrupt services and affect people across the county including older adults, people with mobility or health challenges, or anyone living alone. The Meath Community Preparedness Alliance, open to all people living in Co. Meath, is voluntary, confidential, and designed to keep people safe and provide support during such events.
Registering with this initiative means support can be coordinated more efficiently, ensuring households with additional support needs can be identified, contacted, and supported quickly and safely when an adverse event occurs. Anyone signing up can expect text alerts in advance of severe weather or other emergency events, with steps on how to prepare, in addition to welfare checks by phone or in person if the household is in an affected area during these difficult periods.
OPPORTUNTY TO REGISTER FAMILY & FRIENDS IN THE COMMUNITY

Register online or a paper version of the form is available on request from communitysafety@meathcoco.ie.
An Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, Cllr Wayne Harding said: “Meath County Council, along with our partner agencies, is encouraging any person who feels they may need additional support during an adverse event, such as a weather event, to seriously consider signing up for this voluntary and confidential system. “Our focus is on providing safety, reassurance and practical help to people who need it, particularly during severe storms or prolonged power outages, for example. “If you know a family member, friend, or neighbour who you feel may benefit from extra assistance, please urge them to contact us.”
Chief Executive of Meath County Council, Kieran Kehoe added: “Community preparedness strengthens resilience across the entire county. We want everyone in Meath to be safe and to know that we are here to support you, and ensure no household is overlooked in times of severe weather or in an emergency. The Meath Community Preparedness Alliance creates a way for state agencies and local partners to coordinate, share information, and respond more efficiently, so we can deliver timely, targeted assistance to those who need it most.”
