A 21 year-old man from Enfield appeared charged concerning an alleged robbery in which what was described as a pellet gun was used at a shop in the town earlier this month. Dean Gill, a roofing worker, of Blackwater Close, Enfield was arrested the previous day and brought before Trim District Court on Thursday. Garda objected under the O’Callaghan rule to him being granted bail.
The court heard that between €900 and €1, 000 was stolen from the till in the incident on March 4 last. The Garda opposed bail because of the nature and seriousness of the charge. Judge Eirinn McKiernan said she was reluctant to release the defendant whose solicitor Maurice Regan asked that be granted bail under conditions with which his client was willing to abide.
Judge McKiernan let the matter stand and later after further consideration of the application, set bail in the sum of €200 conditional on the defendant remaining alcohol and intoxicant free; sign on at a Garda station on Fridays and stay away from the shop and have no contact with the injured party. She remanded him on bail to April 9 for directions in the case from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
