The behaviour of a 48-year-old man who defecated in the cell of a Garda station was described by a judge in court as “absolutely horrendous”. Jonathan Meehan, Butterstream Manor, Trim appeared at Trim District Court charged with criminal damage and the possession of drugs.
The court was told that defendant was arrested after he abused Gardai at Watergate Street Navan at 1.20am on 9 th July 2022.
The court heard he had a previous conviction for public disorder and one for driving without insurance. Defending solicitor Miriam Regan said her client was “humiliated and mortified” by what he had done and was issuing a full apology to Gardai. The defendant apologised again in court.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan said she didn’t know how the Garda had gone into work the day after the defendant’s behaviour in the station. The judge directed defendant to pay a €750 donation to the Little Blue Heroes organisation by 15 th June next. If it was not paid he would receive a two-month suspended prison sentence.
